Cutesy tote May 4, 2007

Filed under: creativity, diy, sewing — thesewingbunny @ 6:43 pm

It’s been a while since I last sewed something. My sewing machine’s tension got pretty messed up, and I had to get it fixed. Fiftey-two dollars later, it works like a charm! (Er, sort of. I had a few problems with it again recently, but nothing I couldn’t fix myself)

One of my best friend’s birthday was last Thursday, and I knew I wanted to sew her a tote bag of some sort. After receiving the outer fabric from a previous swap, I knew I had to use it. I absolutely adore the design!

The inside fabric used was the first fabric I ever bought for myself, and the denim handles were recycled from an old pair of jeans.

I’m very proud of this one due the amount of time spent on it! My friend loved it, too.

A possible vow February 23, 2007

Filed under: creativity, swaps — thesewingbunny @ 10:52 pm

After spending hours trying to declutter my bedroom, and feeling completely overwhelmed, I had an idea. This idea is one that makes complete sense, yet most crafters never listen to it, pushing it away and saying “NO!”

Why not take a vow to craft using ONLY supplies you already own?

The only exception to this rule would be buying thread to match fabric, and other needed (not wanted) supplies. And maybe buying fabric for clothing, since I usually tend to buy fabric in quantities way too small to make a garment out of.

Has anyone else taken a vow such as this before? How has it worked out for you?

I think I’m going to try it. From now on, I vow to use at least 95% pre-purchased or found craft supplies for all of my projects.

On another note, I received part two of a swap package from SewPixie over on Craftster today! Here are all the goodies together:
Package #2 from SewPixie
Included was cute fabric, two “Tree of Life” pendants, a bracelet, two pairs of earrings, a zipper flower brooch, lip balm, and a Cookie Monster washcloth. What a fabulous package!

It is the best feeling to come home to a swap package created just for you. I am so glad I stumbled across Craftster a year ago and discovered this swapping business :P
Last Thursday, I received one of the packages SewPixie is sending me for the IYP5 Swap! Here’s all my wonderful loot:
Crocheted flowers I plan on using as pins and hair clips
CrochetedFLowers
Yummy lip balm and “baking” fabric which I intend to make an apron out of
LipbalmandFabric
A sewing goodies bag, wonderfully sewn and in my favorite colors, so I can tote along projects I am working on!

I also received today from butterflie over at Craftster for the current Paper & Ephemera Swap. Would you look at all this papery goodness!

Happy House Tissue Box Cover January 16, 2007

Filed under: sewing — thesewingbunny @ 2:20 pm

After flipping through the patterns in my new The Crafter’s Companion book, I decided that I HAD to make this one first. It was developed by Heidi Kenney of mypapercrane.com, and is known for her cute plush figures with emotions. Although not plush, this tissue box cover is brought to life with the “smoke” coming out of its chimney, and happy face. Overall, this project took me a morning to finish (there were 20+ pieces to sew!) and was very easy to understand.

I was also inspired recently to teach myself (for the third time) how to crochet. If anyone has any helpful websites they’d like to post for me, I would greatly appreciate it!

Here we go… December 19, 2006

Cheers to my first-ever craft blog!

I was recently inspired by the latest CraftyPod podcast to make one that I can stick with for years to come.

I chose my name (The Sewing Bunny) for a few reasons: first, I am a self-taught sewer, who has been faithfully using her sewing machine for a little less than a year now, and second, because I was given the nickname “Bunny” or, “Bon Bon,” back in my younger days. Even today at age sixteen, I’m still known to all my friends as Bon Bon, hence my Crafster.org username.

Over the past few months, I’ve sold some of my creations at mini-craft fairs, worked on commissions, and given things to friends and family. In a few years, I hope to go to college and study apparel and/or textile design. :)

WordPress is quite a difficult blog site to get used to (I’ve blogged with Xanga in the past), so if anyone has suggestions or websites that may be helpful, please don’t hesitate to comment!
