IYP5 Swap Package for SewPixie January 25, 2007

Filed under: sewing, swaps — thesewingbunny @ 7:23 pm

Whew, SewPixie received all of the goodies I sent her for the January Jamboree!
First up, this collaged earring holder. I found a simlilar one she had Wisted, and went from there.

I also saw on her Wists that she had been eyeing a crochet hook needle roll. I found some cute flower fabric and created my own pattern, vaguely based off of the needle roll pattern in The Crafter’s Companion.

SewPixie also showed interest in some fabric wall hangings for her craft room, so I covered a canvas board and two pieces of cardboard in some coordinating fabrics I had bought at a craft fair last summer.

The final addion to this swap package included misc. fabric pieces, yarn, and a crochet hook.

She seemed to enjoy everything, and boy am I glad!

The “fall”backs of spring fashion January 23, 2007

Filed under: Spring, fashion — thesewingbunny @ 9:14 pm

After scouring recent issues of magazines (Nylon, Vogue, W), searching for the most popular trends of Spring 2007, I have compiled a much simplified list.

Many, as I’m sure you all won’t be too surprised to find out, are reoccuring trends that have either been around for awhile, or just made popular last season.

Layering–obviously, not to the extent of winter layering, with various knits, but rather with airy layers.
Short–legs are in! Get ready for more minis.
High Heels–and when I say this, I mean really high heels. Get those calves ready, ladies!
Masculinity–or shall I say, femininity? The woman is an extremely stronger figure than ever before; the structured pieces many attribute to male fashion will now be seen more often for women as well.
Equestrian themes–horses and jockeys, galore.
Nautical–always a spring staple
Preppy (mixed with masculinity)–go for the schoolboy look with blazers, loafers, etc.
School girl–those cutesy plaid skirts and knee highs are back again, yet, a little different from the Britany Spears era.
Dark colors–with a pop of one bright color.
Mixing masculine with feminine
Primaries–blue, red, yellow.

What are you’re thoughts on these trends, and how do you plan to make them your own this season?

Happy House Tissue Box Cover January 16, 2007

Filed under: sewing — thesewingbunny @ 2:20 pm

After flipping through the patterns in my new The Crafter’s Companion book, I decided that I HAD to make this one first. It was developed by Heidi Kenney of mypapercrane.com, and is known for her cute plush figures with emotions. Although not plush, this tissue box cover is brought to life with the “smoke” coming out of its chimney, and happy face. Overall, this project took me a morning to finish (there were 20+ pieces to sew!) and was very easy to understand.

I was also inspired recently to teach myself (for the third time) how to crochet. If anyone has any helpful websites they’d like to post for me, I would greatly appreciate it!

Why hello there, 2007… January 9, 2007

Although I have not written in here for a while, a lot has happened since my last post prior to the holidays. Unfortunately I was not able to spend as much time crafting as I wished. I did begin a knitted hat for a veteran, worked a bit on my knitted shawl for a cancer patient in my area, and created miscellaneous collages and paintings for my art class.

After a stressful day of school, during which I met with my guidance counsler to talk more about college planning, I came home to a great surprise in the mail!

The Crafter’s Companion had arrived, all the way from England. Although I haven’t read all of the contributors’ profiles yet, the pictures themselves are too amazing for words.

I find the fact that this arrived after being ordered last Wednesday quite amazing, considering I ordered Craftivityoff of Amazon.com last Sunday, and that was only coming to me from a few states over. Hmmm.

Well, this book inspired me to start crafting for the January Jamboree over at Craftster. My recommendation to you all: go out and buy this book! Whether you order it now off of amazon.co.uk or wait a month or so until it arrives in US bookstores.
Oh! And Happy New Year, all :)

The holiday stress…is it over? December 21, 2006

I don’t think so…yet.

After getting home from work at 9:30 tonight, I stayed up to finish some Christmas gifts for friends I’ll be seeing for the last time tomorrow until after our school break, and a last minute purse order.

I’m embarrased to say that I didn’t make any of my own cards this year, nor did I make anything handmade for my parents and relatives. I honestly don’t think there’s anything I hate more than school work leaving very little time for crafting.

So, for the gifts: I went simple. PJ bottoms for a few friends, fleece blankets for a few more, and record bowls for all!

And for the commission…an ice cream purse!

Cute, no?

Ah, the caffeine’s finally starting to wear off. Time to get some rest before the last day of school tomorrow.

Here we go… December 19, 2006

Cheers to my first-ever craft blog!

I was recently inspired by the latest CraftyPod podcast to make one that I can stick with for years to come.

I chose my name (The Sewing Bunny) for a few reasons: first, I am a self-taught sewer, who has been faithfully using her sewing machine for a little less than a year now, and second, because I was given the nickname “Bunny” or, “Bon Bon,” back in my younger days. Even today at age sixteen, I’m still known to all my friends as Bon Bon, hence my Crafster.org username.

Over the past few months, I’ve sold some of my creations at mini-craft fairs, worked on commissions, and given things to friends and family. In a few years, I hope to go to college and study apparel and/or textile design. :)

WordPress is quite a difficult blog site to get used to (I’ve blogged with Xanga in the past), so if anyone has suggestions or websites that may be helpful, please don’t hesitate to comment!
